The Chamber represents the interests of business and works on projects that will improve our area business climate. Over 200 volunteers from member businesses and organizations contribute their talents on Chamber committees. Each committee is unique and focuses on a different area of service.

If you’re interested in joining any of the committees listed below, contact the committee chair or a staff member.

100 Club
Organizes a social fundraiser for Christmas decorations and fireworks. Event is held in March.

Committee Chair: Ken Howe, Howe Advertising and Embroidery
Meets January-March as needed

Agri-Business Committee
Works to promote agribusiness in the Austin area and reaffirm important links between agriculture and the business community. Activities include organization of the Ag. Appreciation Summer Cookout and Day on the Farm. Also supports the National Barrow Show, 4-H Ribbon Auction, Dairy Princess, Pork Ambassador and similar programs.

Meets 7 a.m. the first Thursday of the month, March-October

Ambassadors
The public relations arm of the Chamber, our “Red Coats” Ambassadors work to create an atmosphere of goodwill within our community as the official representatives of the Chamber, and provide recognition and networking opportunities for members. Ambassadors conduct ribbon cutting ceremonies, host Business After Hours, organize the Chamber’s annual golf outing, AMIGO Day, our Annual Winter Banquet and Awards Program, fundraise for fireworks, and help out during Christmas in the City and Freedom Fest events.

Meets 7:30 a.m. second Wednesday of the month.

Business Education
Building stronger relationships between our schools, our youth, and our community. This committee raises funds and awards scholarships for 8th and 12th grade students in Austin schools.

Meets 4:30 p.m. first Wednesday of the month, October-March

Christmas in the City
Organizes a calendar of events to promote the business community during the holiday season. Major events include the Christmas in the City Kickoff, Christmas in the NW and Sterling Christmas.

Meets September-November

Community Receptionist
The Chamber’s marketing committee develops promotional materials, including the Someplace Special magazine and Welcome to Austin relocation packet.

Meets as needed.

Government Affairs
The public policy arm of the Chamber, the committee works to provide members with a strong voice in government affairs, particularly at the local level. Studies issues that affect business, develops policies to improve the business climate, and advocates for business interests.

Meets 8 a.m. the first Tuesday of the month.

Grow Minnesota!
A statewide private sector business retention and expansion program led by the Minnesota Chamber in partnership with 40 local chambers. Locally, the Austin Chamber partners on this project with the DCA. The purpose is to recognize and thank businesses for being here, identify their concerns and opportunities, and offer the Chamber’s assistance in resolving problems and/or achieving goals.

Human Resources
A resource group for HR professionals and employers who want to keep abreast of current trends and regulations within the industry. Activities include monthly educational and networking meetings plus hosting of two educational seminars per year.

Meets 11:30-1:00 third Thursday of the month, September-May

Ladies Night Out
Organizes a social fundraiser for women in business with a portion of proceeds dedicated to a scholarship at Riverland for non-traditional female students. Event is held in October.

Meets as needed, July-October

Leadership Austin
Organizes a community-based education and development program designed to provide an ongoing source of motivated leaders informed about the community and its issues.

Year Leaders: Dr. Ron Langrell, Riverland Community College, Todd Penske, Cooperative Response Center, Inc., Sandy Forstner, Chamber.
Meets 4 p.m. third Monday of the month.

SpamtownUSA Freedom Festival
Organizes events and activities celebrating community and Independence Day, including entertainment, parade, concessions, crafts, and fireworks. Multi-day events held annually in conjunction with the 4th of July.

Committee Chair: Jeff Baldus, Culver’s Restaurant
Meets 7:30 a.m. third Thursday of the month, January-September.
